Bose captures the fire in Ashutosh Mukherjee's eyes in this portrait rightfully called the Bengal Tiger. Mukherjee was a versatile Bengali academic, jurist, lawyer, and mathematician. Bose was given five minutes to draw a portrait of Ashutosh Mukherjee and he did so while Mukherjee was taking a bath; clad in a white dhoti and seated on a small wooden stool. This portrait earned Atul Bose a scholarship to the Royal Academy in London.
