Indra Dugar was schooled in Santiniketan and was introduced to painting by his father who was a well-known artist and one of the first students of Kala Bhavan at Rabindranath Tagore's Vishwa Bharati University in Santiniketan. Dugar's constant interactions with prominent artists like Nandalal Bose Rabindranath Tagore and Benode Behari Mukherjee influenced his oeuvre.His works chronicle his observed views of life and nature during his many travels throughout India. His strengths mostly lay in the landscapes he rendered in watercolur.
