DESCRIPTION
MIRO TRIBUTE - 14.5 x 12.5 in., EXPECTING SOLOMON 19.5 x 19.5 in. Keren SouzaKohn’s oeuvre intertwines with a rich familial legacy, shaped by her father, Francis Newton Souza, a luminary in the Bombay Progressive Artists’ Group. Growing up surrounded by bohemian influences, she took an unconventional path in art education. A Ravensbourne College of Art graduate, SouzaKohn has exhibited globally, showcasing prints, drawings, watercolours, and oils. Initially mirroring her father’s style, marked by vibrant colours and hard edges, SouzaKohn’s art reflects her fascination with abstracted figuration and the coexistence of divinity within our physical realm. Her love for bold colours infuses vibrancy into her compositions. As SouzaKohn’s style matured, she delved into self-discovery, incorporating Hebrew letters with numerical and mystical connotations. This shift mirrors not only artistic evolution but also an exploration of her Jewish roots. Her art presents unexpected juxtapositions, creating nuanced narratives that are sometimes subtle and subliminal, at other times overt and open to interpretation. Souza-Kohn’s journey is a tapestry woven with familial influence, unconventional education, and a profound exploration of her heritage, culminating in a unique and compelling visual narrative.
