Thota Tharani is an Indian artist celebrated for his mastery in various creative domains including set design, painting, and sculpture. Tharani pursued formal training at the Government College of Fine Arts in Chennai and further honed his skills in Paris. Tharani is particularly renowned for his work in the Indian film industry as an art director, where his set designs have brought numerous films to life with breathtaking detail and creativity. Despite his success in cinema, Tharani's passion for painting has remained constant, with his works often exploring traditional and mythological themes with a modern sensibility. This piece is part of Tharani's larger series dedicated to Ganesha, which includes around 50 paintings in various media such as pen drawings, watercolours, acrylics, and oils. This series reflects Tharani's lifelong passion for depicting Ganesha, a fascination that began in his childhood as he watched his father sketch the deity.
