DESCRIPTION
Prahlad Karmakar was a classically trained artist from Calcutta now Kolkata known for his realistic scenes and influential teaching at the Government College of Art & Craft in Kolkata. He gained recognition for his portraits of British administrators and Maharajas and defied norms by organising nude study classes. Unfortunately he passed away just before India gained independence and his studio was attacked and his paintings set on fire. This artwork depicting a Himalayan boy is one of the few that survived.
