DESCRIPTION
Sailoz Mookherjea was notable for his fluid and spontaneous use of oil painting, diverging from classical methods. Influenced by Indian folk art and Western artists like Matisse and Modigliani, his vibrant works often depicted rural life and landscapes with lyrical quality. A significant period in Paris in 1937 exposed him to the bold styles of the Ecole de Paris, yet his art remained deeply rooted in Indian traditions. His themes centered on rural life and nature, translating traditional aesthetics into modern idioms. Despite his untimely death, Mookherjea's legacy endures; his works are recognized as National Treasures by the Government of India, and he was honored on a postage stamp in 1978. NATIONAL ART TREASURE. NON EXPORTABLE.
