Ramkinkar Baij was a pioneering artist who played a crucial role in the development of Contextual Modernism. Born in West Bengal Baij studied at Kala Bhavan in Santiniketan under the guidance of Nandalal Bose. His work is characterised by a blend of Indian and Western influences incorporating elements from artists like Cezanne and Picasso. This painting captures a vibrant village scene. Baij's use of bold brushstrokes and a muted color palette conveys a sense of movement and life evoking the rhythm of rural life.
