DESCRIPTION
Withdrawn. Shiavax Chavda's artistic oeuvre garners inspiration from his extensive travels throughout India. His works reflect his preoccupation with India's temples, culture, heritage, and its people. In 1930, Chavda joined the J.J. School of Art and in 1935 studied at the Slade School, in London. He was also briefly associated with the Progressive Artists' Group in 1950. Most evident in his paintings is his fascination with various Indian classical dance forms. Chavda carried a sketchbook documenting his observations as he traveled along India and South East Asia. He captured men and women dancing across communities, borders, and styles. These depictions demonstrated each dance form's joy, culture and colour. This particular lot represents the artist's penchant for elegantly capturing people in a state of graceful movement.
