DESCRIPTION
17 in x 17 in ; 11.5 in x 17.5 in. Amina Ahmed Kar was a pioneering figure in Indian abstract art. Educated in Paris, she studied art history and Sanskrit philology under renowned Orientalist scholars. Her time in Paris, where she met her husband, visual artist Chintamoni Kar, and was mentored by Dutch painter Cesar D, significantly influenced her early work. Amina's artistic journey led her to embrace radical abstraction, moving towards mono- or achromatic themes. Her work explores deep philosophical and introspective themes, marked by a bold departure from traditional figurative art. In addition to her contributions to visual art, Amina was an accomplished scholar in Khmerology, with her significant work, "The Angkorian Records" (1977), blending insights from Indian and Iranian traditions.
