Kumari Nayika: Where Art Meets Empowerment

Prinseps, in collaboration with CITTA India and French artist Hélène Guétary, invites you to Kumari Nayika, an extraordinary exhibition that showcases the boundless power of imagination and education. This unique event, held on 14th and 15th December 2024 at Kathiwada City House, Mumbai, brings to life a visual narrative co-created by Hélène and sixteen young girls from the Rajkumari Ratnavati School in Jaisalmer. Through a captivating photographic fresco and striking portraits, the exhibition tells the story of Princess Rimjhim, a mythical figure born of the Sun and the River, embodying resilience, sustainability, and empowerment.

"I embarked on an amazing human experience in Jaisalmer at the Rajkumari Ratnavati School, working for three weeks with sixteen girl students. Together, we invented a visual tale for the future—a reflection of their dreams, hopes, and the world they aspire to live in," Hélène recalls.

The exhibition captures the story of Princess Rimjhim, who represents harmony with nature and the boundless potential of dreams. Accompanied by characters like Chetan, the Butterfly Shepherd, and Marich, the cunning merchant, the tale unfolds through a breathtaking photographic fresco and a series of portraits. The muted brown tones and earthy palette reflect the arid beauty of the Thar Desert, while the vibrant imagination of the students brings each character to life.

Beyond the visual allure, this exhibition is a call to action. Proceeds from the online auction of limited-edition fine art prints will directly support the Rajkumari Ratnavati School’s mission to empower young girls through education. The initiative, led by CITTA India, has become a vital force for change in the region, blending traditional values with modern aspirations.
